Loft before and after conversion

Truss Roof Loft Conversion - before

The initial photo shows a modern trussed roof common in most houses built since the 1970's. Many home owners with truss roof lofts may think that a loft conversion is not possible because of limited space available in the trussed areas.

Dealing with trussed roofs

Following a structural survey and appropriate building regulation approval the wooden trusses are removed. The roof is temporarily supported during this process before load bearing steel beams are inserted.

Truss Roof Loft Conversion - after

A far larger area than expected is produced once the trusses have been removed. On the far right the stairs have been enclosed and vertical low level windows installed to maximize the use of natural light. These complement the Velux skylights. Down lights add light to the room and save space.

Naturally the floor was strengthened to take loads and roof insulation was added.
