Single Storey Kitchen Extension, SaddleworthWe created a beautiful purpose built contemporary kitchen/diner in this single storey house extension, part of semi-detached house renovation in Saddleworth, Oldham. ModernisationThe extension transformed the home for modern living as it freed up the old kitchen area to use as an adjacent lounge for precious family time during meal preparation and for relaxed TV meals. Our brief also included renovating the entire house and features in the kitchen such as natural wood floor and heating and high quality finish also extend throughout other parts of the house. The KitchenThe kitchen is designed for a light, airy feel and easy access to the garden. Natural light floods in from three overhead roof windows in white polyurethane, through gable wall windows and bi-fold sliding doors. Bi-fold Sliding DoorsBi-fold doors add a luxury dimension to the kitchen, creating a sliding glass wall with elegant sightlines that allow in light and views of the garden. The door frames are timber and aluminium, so while they look slender they are extremely strong and stable. Folding-sliding doors are available in a wide range of styles and sizes and they help flood a home with natural light. Glazing is available also in low-E insulated glass or gas-filled options. Our design tip for these doors is that they are best suited to south, south/east, south/west elevations to minimise heat loss. To control heat gain, vertical or venetian blinds help in summer. Kitchen IslandThe natural light makes the room perfect for morning use, a breakfast bar integrated into the large kitchen island is ideal for quick meals, snacks and casual entertaining. Electric lights are recessed dimmable low voltage ceiling down lighters and create mood lighting for the evenings. Integrated AppliancesAll electrical appliances are conveniently integrated into the ivory coloured units and island:
To ensure the kitchen extension remains warm throughout the year all the glazing is double glazed and heating is supplied via space saving vertical radiators at either end of the kitchen. |
