| Front and rear external views of houseThe redevelopment increased the size of the property and kept the existing style. The building work extended the rear of the property and added a ground floor room, an en-suite and dressing room to the master bedroom, re-roofed and converted the loft into two bedrooms. Ground floorThe rear view picture of the extension shows both the 10 foot extension and the additional 8 ft for the single storey to match the rear of the garage (right). The windows were made to match the original house style and have specially designed and manufactured frames. They are hardwood and painted for both durability and style. First floorOn the first floor, the master bedroom spans the house rear. The left window is the bedroom, the right the dressing room. Top floorOn the top floor are two main rooms, a study/office and a playroom, each has a dormer window facing back, between these is a bathroom with a Velux skylight. Re-roof and dormer windowsThe roof needed replacing so it would fit the extension and support dormer windows. We installed new steel beams at roof ridge level (the top) for support and a new roof was constructed and battened, felted and tiled before the old one was stripped out. Rosemary tilesRosemary roof tiles cover the roof. "Rosemary's" are a traditional and classic red clay tile which has been used on roofs for over a hundred years. The tiles are manufactured and available in a wide variety which will suit the design or many different roofs and their requirements, dormer windows in this case. The Rosemary tiles along the dormer ridges and ground floor extension roof are called 'bonnet hips'. The rounded edges give a pleasant, softer profile to roof edges where two adjacent roof slopes come together. The pitch of the new roof needed to be 37 degrees or greater so these tiles could be used. Smaller than normal, the tile size meant that there are 60 tiles to each square metre as opposed to the normal 9. "Rosemary's" are aesthetically attractive and in keeping with other houses in the area. The picture also shows the traditional lead work flashing around the roof dormer. Tyrolean renderThe whole property was Tyrolean rendered to match existing house style, a textured white finish. Tyrolean render is chosen for a low maintenance, it has a white textured finish and a consistent colour. There is no requirement to paint it should small flakes peel.
